Today I did a science lab on vibrations. I took three wine glasses and filled them halfway with water. I then put my hand in to the water, and then rubbed it against the ring of the glass. The 1st time it didn't work, but the 2nd time it did.Things I learned :
- You have to push down on the bottom.
- You have to concave your fingers.
- The bigger the glass, the deeper sound it makes.
- The glasses "sing" because it is being made to vibrate by your moving finger.
The reason I did this is because I'm home schooled and I wanted to control sound.
I know somebody that made a easier way, but nobody uses it anymore. His name: Ben Franklin.
Ben Franklin is a framer of the Declaration of independence, inventor, writer, and inventor of the glass armonica. The man who tried to capture lighting made this machine.
I think Ben Franklin is a interesting subject. Here is his invention in action:
A website NAMED after it? WOW! Many people do not play it because they could not change the sound's volume .Go here for more information: http://www.glassarmonica.com/
The glass armonica is a not very hard to play, but to master is hard to do.
