4-H Jr. Iron Chef: Salsa

Hey guys, it's Adventure Van here with a blog post about both 4-H and the Jr. Iron Chef they hosted. Not actually an official Iron Chef, this event was sponsored by Wegmans and was given food by said company. As in the name of this blog post, the event was about salsa, and we were given a certain amount of ingredients to create a type of salsa that was simple to make and was good to eat. It had a rubric that allowed all the separate types of salsa to be judged easily that was handed out after the completion.

The recipe my teammate and I used is below:
  • YE OLDE SALSA RECIPE
  • 1 1/2 a Tomato.
  • 1/2 a can of Black Beans.
  • 1/2 a Onion.
  • 1/2 a Hot Pepper.
  • 10 leaves of Cilantro.
  • 1 green Onion.
  • 1 clove of Garlic.
  • Chop all Onions, Tomatoes, and Hot Peppers. Mince  the Garlic and Cilantro. Slice the Green Onion stalk. Drain the Black Beans. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and enjoy!
The rubric was a simple 6 group category system including Taste, Presentation, Easy to Reproduce, Teamwork, Cleanliness, and Talk. With Taste, Presentation, and Easy to Reproduce giving more points then Teamwork, Talk, and Cleanliness. It was possible to score anywhere from 9 to 45, but if you scored 9 you'd done messed up. No one scored 9 though, so that's good.

Adventure Van, Salsa-ing out.
