Fish

Hey guys, it's Adventure Van here with a blog about fish cookery. Fishing is a fun activity that plenty of people do, and fish is a good food with tons of essential nutrients. However, sadly for America, we have an excess of pollutants in our water, so fish here have tons of chances to be poisoned, even when directly fished from local rivers. Some things that these fish have is stuff like mercury, DDT, PCBs, and chlordane. However, it still is possible to fish in these waters and eat them while remaining healthy. But how?

Avoiding some types of fish outright is a good solution. Bass, Pike, and Walleye are all prone to hitting higher levels of mercury. And cooking methods that remove fat, like filleting or grilling fish, will detoxicate a large portion of the fish. And simply lowering the amount of times you eat fish in a month down to 2 or 3 will help completely knock out most risks. But this means that methods of cooking, and certain types of fish are completely off the table for now. What can we do for the future to have cleaner and more widespread access to local fish?

A simple way is to get your local government to stop large companies from using nearby water supplies as dumping grounds, as well as cleaning the pollution already inside of it. And helping organizations clean them as well by volunteering or even starting your own. And even just talking with other people who enjoy fish is always a good way to create ideas.

Adventure Van, fishing.
