It's Adventure Van here, with a blog about the HORRORS OF GPS (Global Positioning Service)! While that's a bit dramatic, it's proven that using a GPS, or giving someone GPS like directions, can actually damage and 'turn off' the parts of their brain that help use planning and thinking, also known as the Hippocampus and the Prefrontal Cortex. A study by the University College of London showed that compared to people who used maps were using the already stated parts of their brain to get around, but the second group of people with GPSes to get around were using those parts almost none of the time during the project. It's slightly scary to know how the more tech advances, the more danger we're putting in fundamental parts of our brains.
That's Adventure Van, asking for directions.
one of the interesting things about this, is there is recorded evidence that people thought that writing down things in books instead of memorization would destroy our brains' abilities to remember.
ReplyDeleteThey were right.
In a few milenia, we may be very dumb.
