Hey guys, it's Adventure Van here with a blog about Lazarillo de Tormes. It's an important book, although both short and relatively forgotten. It's what the cultural classics such as Huckleberry Finn is purportedly based off of, and it was published anonymously due to the fact that it showed an unflattering portrayal of the Catholic Church... during the middle of the Spanish Inquisition. It speaks truth about the situation in Spain, with grifters being in positions of power and those who were even somewhat honorable being without any sort of material to support themselves with. Over all, it was an interesting, somewhat funny while somewhat heart wrenching window into the true past of the Spanish Inquisition and Spain in and of itself.
